Title: The Economic Prospects After Unification: The View From A Hedge Fund 

Unification will generate considerable economic dividends. North and South Koreas will increase their trade and other commercial links, albeit with separate currencies and strict restrictions on economic migration. Beijing will be happy to “sanction” reunification if the Peninsular is demilitarised and it benefits economically from fusion. Towards the end of the century, “Unified Korea” is likely to be more populace than Japan with a higher GDP per capita even sooner.

* Stella Mi-Cheong Cheong (Institute of Education, University College London)

Title: A tale of two cities: Lessons from young North Korean migrants who live in Seoul and New Malden

This study aims to develop peacebuilding citizenship education which enables both North and South Korean citizens to prepare for successful unification as a long-term goal. A reunification of two Koreas means not only to end the current conflict and political tension on the Korean Peninsula but also to transform fundamental changes in the values, norms, and division ideology for social integration of two different nationalities. As a result, redefining new values and norms, as well as a new form of citizen will be required on the future unified Korean Peninsula is crucial to develop the peacebuilding citizenship education in the context of reunification. I call this new people ‘bridge citizens,' which means they are value bearing citizens who are able to overcome division ideology and promote diversity in potentially unified Korea and the diaspora. To identify the concept of ‘bridge citizens,’ this study documents seven different life histories of North Korean migrant youths who live in South Korea and the United Kingdom. My analysis of this rich data helped me to understand and interpret their unique socio-political contexts, the salient characteristics of North Korean habitus, educational phenomena, and the adaptive process and strategies in the new societies, Seoul in South Korea and New Malden in the UK by the whole life story of participants. I hope that this study will give an ample alternative to the government to develop a new educational policy for social integration after the future reunification on the Korean Peninsula.

Title: 백두혈통의 이미지 형성과 문화정책의 기여

북한은 현대사에 유일무이한 3대 세습이라는 독특한 정치체제를 유지하고 있습니다. 백두혈통의 이미지 형성을 중심으로 유일 지배체제를 이어갈수 있었던 원인으로 문화정책의 기여에 주목하고 교육환경, 문학, 예술 작품들을 분석하여 해방이후부터 1970년대까지 정치 경제 사회의 환경에 따라 어떻게 바뀌었고 그것이 체제 유지에 어떤 영향을 주었는지를 알아보고자 합니다.

Title: 탈북민의 시각: 통일 이후 예측되는 문제점

북한도 역시 통일에 대해 주민들에게 많은 교육을 했고, 통일의 당위성을 선전하고 있는 중입니다. 강연자는 먼저 온  '통일촌 뉴몰동' 코리아 타운사회를 통해 미래의 통일 사회를 그려보았을 때, 가장 중점으로 둘 문제가 남북한주민들의 사회통합 문제라고 생각합 니다. 남북한 주민들의 인식의 차이, 가치관의 차이, 통일사회에 정죄와 심판의식이, 남북한 교육의 차이, 그리고 사회통합의 방해세력에 대한 관리와 강한 법적 장치.
